Speaker Bio
Steve began his career in 1987 when he moved from UBS to manage the £3 billion Lucas Industries Pension Fund, which consistently achieved top-quartile performance over a five-year period.
In 1994, he joined Dresdner Kleinwort Benson as a product specialist before moving to the proprietary trading desk, where he was responsible for investing approximately £2 billion of the bank’s own capital in European equity markets. In this role, he employed a wide range of trading, hedging and relative-value strategies, forming the foundation of his long-standing expertise in hedge-fund techniques and absolute return investing.
In 2000, Steve joined Bank of America, heading a team responsible for deploying around £1.5 billion of proprietary capital in European equities, while also helping to build the European Equity Department from the ground up.
In 2005, he co-founded and co-managed Miton’s CF Miton Arcturus Fund, one of the first UK funds to adopt a genuinely multi-asset, absolute-return approach. During his stewardship, the fund delivered first-quartile performance in every measured period since launch.
In 2008, Steve became one of the founding partners of Apollo Multi Asset Management LLP, establishing the business from scratch and embedding the high-conviction, multi-strategy, absolute-return philosophy that continues to define Apollo today.
