Prior to founding the strategy in 2009, Barend was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he was portfolio manager on a trading desk with an investing mandate that included loans, bonds, credit default swaps, trade claims, patents, lease paper, options, and equities. He holds an MBA from Wharton, an MA in Multinational Management from the Lauder Institute, and a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
